Skipper Limited launch Hyderabad unit

Kolkata-based Skipper Limited, a flagship company of the SK Bansal Group, inaugurated their first PVC pipes manufacturing unit in south India in Hyderabad as a part of their plans to increase their production capacity to one lakh tonnes per year.

The unit, which has already started its operations with a 100-plus workforce, has the capacity to produce 6,000 metric tonnes per annum of polymer pipes - plumbing and agricultural combined – occupies nearly 2.25 acres of land in Medak district near Bollaram, Jinnaram Mandal.

Skipper Ltd, which had not much presence in south India till now, will now use the Hyderabad unit as their base of operations in this region. The company’s ambition to increase their production capacity to one lakh tonne a year, which was announced at the time of the launch of their factory in Ahmedabad last year, seems to progress well with expansion plans to pick up the pace. So when quizzed about the reasons behind selecting Hyderabad, Devesh Bansal was quick to point out the ease of doing business in Telangana as their primary reason behind their selection. He said, Our confidence for the state of Telangana and the city of Hyderabad has been a tremendous driving force behind our manufacturing scale-up.

While Siddharth Bansal hinted at looking forward to the Telangana government’s plan for a strong irrigation and water grid project as central to their business plan.

Trupik Connect launches a 3D trial room on app

Taking hyperlocal commerce a step ahead, Hyderabad based Trupik Connect is looking to change the way people shop at their favourite retail outlets without having to step out. The two-year old start-up uses 3D Body mapping to help you try on multiple garments virtually.

Having partnered with the company, four men's wear brands including Indian Terrain, Raymonds, Wills and Allen Solly will launch the Trupik kiosks at their Brand Stores in Hyderabad, taking the pilot live.

"We are using Microsoft Kinect, a depth sensing camera which takes multiple reference points of your body, creating your virtual avatar. Through the app, consumers can see how multiple sizes and fabrics drape on them," said Sridhar Tirumala, CEO of Trupik. Users can pick the selected merchandise from store or ask for home-delivery.

The venture has raised a seed round of $1 million (around Rs 6 crores) from expatriate HNIs including Kommareddy Group of Investors based in the Silicon Valley and will initiate conversations for a Series A round by next month. "We will initially tie-up with brand stores and take our products to other multi-brand outlets, adding new categories," added Tirumala.

Isuzu - Andhra plant to begin operations in 2016

Japanese automotive major Isuzu will start manufacturing pick-up trucks at its facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh from April 2016.

The company is setting up the manufacturing unit with an initial investment of Rs 1,500 crore. It is expected to provide nearly 1,500 to 2000 jobs to locals.

A delegation led by Isuzu India managing director met the state chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, on Monday to update him on the progress of the production facility.

Kikuchi was stated to have informed the chief minister that nearly 75 suppliers were keen to invest in the state. "We will require the government to drive ancillary industries too," he told Naidu.
Replying to the suggestion, the chief minister, according to an official press release, said the state government would come up with a policy for ancillary industries in the next Cabinet meeting. The state would also identify clusters within Sri City and in other areas where ancillary industries could be set up.
The chief minister also told the delegation that he wanted to make Nellore-Chennai-Tirupati as the automobile hub on the lines of Tokyo-Kawasaki-Yokohama in Japan.
